Fenwick’s Sylvia Knap closed out her high school swimming career by competing in three events in the finals of the IHSA State Swim Meet held at Evanston Township High School on Saturday.

Knap led the Friars to a 24th-place tie with Libertyville (10 points). The senior placed 10th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.52 seconds, and 12th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.20 seconds.

Knap also steered the 200-yard freestyle relay team to an 11th-place finish. The group consisting of Knap, Casey Dollard, Stephanie Ovalle, and Meghan Barron timed out at 1:38.54. Knap, Pavlik, Kaitlin Brown and Ovalle finished 12th in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:37.53

It was the first time in Fenwick history that two girls relay teams placed in the top 12 at state.

Barron missed qualifying for the 100-yard breaststroke by an eyelash. With the top 12 times qualifying for the finals, the senior finished 13th in 1:06.91, just a smidge from 12th-place finisher Emily Wike of Sterling (1:06.74).

Jenna Kirk of OPRF finished 37th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.54 seconds on Friday.
