Fenwick swimming phenom Casey Dollard is fitting right in at the high school level. The freshman steered the Friars to their own sectional championship on Saturday by winning two events and helping out in two relay victories.

In all, Fenwick won 9 of the 11 events to capture the sectional with a score of 334. Riverside Brookfield rounded out second with a score of 262, while Oak Park-River Forest took third with a 224.

Dollard’s busy but successful day began by swimming the first leg of the 200-yard medley relay. Dollard, Meghan Barron, Erin Leary and Alison Pavlik raced home to a first-place finish in 1:52.39.

Dollard then outpaced fellow Fenwick freshman Kelly Ryan (2:15.26) to win the 200-yard individual medley, timing out at 2:11. 88.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Sylvia Knap, Dollard, Stephanie Ovalle, and Barron took first with a time of 1:38.91.

Dollard then closed out the day by winning the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.27.

Other notable finishes for the Friars included Knap winning the 50-yard freestyle in 24.05 seconds, and also leading the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Pavlik, Kaitlin Brown, and Ovalle to first place with a time of 3:36.141. Leary won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.45, while Barron won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:07.08.

The swimmers advance to the IHSA State Meet to be held at Evanston Township High School beginning on Friday. Fenwick diver Mary Kate Campbell will also be a part of that group. The freshman won the diving event with 385.10 points.

OPRF’s Kirk to swim at state

Jenna Kirk will be OPRF’s lone swimmer competing at the IHSA State Meet this weekend. The sophomore advanced by placing third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.95 seconds.
