A late-afternoon fire damaged a third-floor apartment of a building in the 300 block of Wisconsin Ave. Thursday. A woman who was at home in the apartment at the time was not injured, nor were firefighters or other residents.

The two units directly below the apartment sustained water damage. All other units in the 12-unit building were largely untouched.

Oak Park Fire Chief William Bell said that the first unit to arrive at the building at 5:50 p.m. observed flames curling out of windows and lapping at the eaves. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within 10 minutes.

Fire investigators have interviewed the woman regarding the circumstances leading up to the fire, but have yet to make a determination as to cause.

Bell said arson is not suspected.

Village housing officials inspected the building and determined that nine of the 12 units were habitable.
