The OPRF tennis team won its own sectional on Saturday by garnering a score of 31, while holding off rivals Fenwick (25) and Trinity (18), who both qualified players for the IHSA State Tennis championships to be held at Mount Prospect High School beginning Thursday.

OPRF’s Margaret Kempster, who finished 4-0 on the day, took first place in singles with a 6-1, 7-6 victory over Trinity’s Amanda Nunez. Fenwick’s Catherine Maloney and Rachel Dillon also qualified for state, finishing third and fourth, respectively, in singles.

OPRF’s Liz Hanley will return to the state tournament with doubles partner Claire Griffin. The duo took first at the sectional with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Fenwick’s Kileen Corvino and Eva Vaughn. Hanley helped the Huskies finish 17th at state last season.

Juniors Carlie Frisch and Erinn McKune also qualified for the tournament with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Emily Simpson and Amy Bredehoft of Walther Lutheran.
