Huskies to take on Fenwick

The OPRF soccer team will be out to prove this season’s playoff seedings were jumbled when the Huskies kickoff the postseason against cross-town rival Fenwick on Oct. 18th.

The Huskies, who will host a regional, were awarded a sixth seed in the Lyons Township Sectional despite having a strong 8-3-3 overall record. Hinsdale Central, who the Huskies defeated 2-1 on Thursday, was awarded the No. 2 seed.

“I don’t know how some schools got seeded higher than us, but we will see those teams in the next few weeks to settle the score,” said OPRF head coach Paul Wright.

Liam Bird and Drew Golz both scored in the win over Hinsdale Central, which followed another West Suburban (Silver) Conference victory over Downers Grove North on Sept. 19. The Huskies downed the Trojans 3-1 thanks to two goals by Golz.

On Sept. 19, the Friars downed cross-town rival OPRF 129-57.

“The team really gets excited about this cross-town rivalry,” said Fenwick head coach Renee Miller.

Fenwick took the match by winning all 12 events. Sophomore Morgan Bonk won both the 500 free (5:26.02) and the 200 free (2:03.19). Junior Erin Leary took first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.31.

Barron won the 100 breaststroke at 108.48.
