With recent OPRF and Fenwick graduates pursuing pro baseball dreams, each week Wednesday Journal will be keeping readers informed of their progress. Stats are through Sunday.

Double A New Britain’s Justin Olson improved to 4-2 with two wins last week, in relief June 20 at Bowie and Saturday in a spot start at Reading. He pitched two shutout innings against the Baysox and then yielded a run in five innings against Reading. He had nine strikeouts over those seven innings to lower his ERA from 5.91 to 5.08.

Michael Santoro (Fenwick ’01) was placed on the voluntary retired list by the San Francisco Giants in April. He hit .200 in 24 games in Single A last year.

Later in the week he went 2-for-12 with two walks and two hit-by-pitches (.167 average, .375 on-base percentage) in a four-game series with Tulsa. Spanos is hitting .315 with 44 RBIs in 70 games.
