Surprise! Surprise! When Teacher-of-the-year gave her interview after the award ceremony, she said involving the parents was most important to her success.

She teaches the little ones in kindergarten in the diplomatic community of the Md.-Va.-Wash. D.C. area. To most of them, English is a new foreign language. Their parents represent some of the poorest countries in the world, in Asia, Africa and South America. If it’s not money that inspires learning, could it be parental involvement and appreciation of the value of education that matters? Maybe a rule at home of “study first,” then play and watch TV?
