The Oak Park District 97 Board of Education Wednesday voted 5-1 to approve Donald Robinson, a finance administrator with the Barrington School District 220, as the district’s next assistant superintendent for Finance and Operations.
Robinson replaces current finance chief Gary Lonquist, who resigned April 11. Lonquist remains in his current position until June 30. Robinson’s appointment is effective July 1.
Dist. 97 Supt. Constance Collins, who worked with Robinson while superintendent of the Zion Elementary School District 6, said Robinson comes in well qualified. Robinson served as assistant superintendent for finance in Zion.
“We believe that he is someone who is up to the challenge of dealing with some of our financial concerns, and understands the direction that we’re trying to move the district in,” she said.
Board member Sharon Patchak-Layman voted against the appointment, saying that she didn’t believe Robinson’s expertise, which includes a banking background, was in line with what the district currently needed. Board member Dan Burke voted present because he did not attend the initial interview with Robinson, but said he would welcome the appointment by the board.
