Four speed skaters from Oak Park received awards at the annual Amateur Skating Association of Illinois banquet in Wheeling two weeks ago. Awards were presented to the best speed skaters in the state for the 2005-06 season.

Oak Parkers who received awards included: Melissa Koenig (first place, Master Women division), Michael Koenig (second place, Pony B division), Emory Lehman (first place, Pony B division), and Patrick McCarthy (first place, Special Needs division).

All four skaters are members of the Franklin Park Speed Skating Club.

U.S. Olympic speed skating medalist Shani Davis presented the awards.

Football camp

The 24th Annual Justin Gage / Revie Sorey All Pro Football Camp returns to the area in June.

The camp offers: Non-contact instruction by the nation’s top NFL pros and high school and college coaches; All positions & all levels of ability are taught to boys ages 10-18, who may attend as either a Day Camper or an Overnight Camper.

Youth football registration

OPRF Youth Football is a community, not for profit, organization providing organized contact football for elementary school children ages 7-14. The program is open to all residents of Oak Park and River Forest and those children attending school in either town. The football program is divided into five levels of play depending on the child’s age and weight. Registration fees are $300, which includes a $50 refundable security deposit until June 15th.
