An unidentified man described as white and in his 20s was struck and killed by a freight train early Sunday morning between Thatcher and First Avenue in River Forest. River Forest police responded to a call from Cook County officials around 1:48 a.m. Sunday after Union Pacific Railroad officials contacted them.
According to police, the east bound Union Pacific freight train was traveling approximately 40 miles per hour when it struck the man, who reportedly died immediately from what the Cook County Examiner’s Office on Monday termed “multiple injuries.” He was also determined to be alcoholically intoxicated at the time of his death, which was ruled an accident. River Forest police were working to determine the man’s identity Monday morning.
