The early bird not only catches the worm, it apparently avoids problems other later birds encounter. Nearly 600 Oak Park and River Forest residents avoided last Tuesday’s voting hassles by casting early ballots, the second largest turnout reported in Cook County.

The Oak Park clerk’s office, which handled early voting for both the Oak Park and River Forest townships, said Tuesday morning that 596 total ballots were cast here, the vast majority of them by Oak Park residents.

“Roughly 15 percent of the votes cast were from River Forest,” said clerk’s office spokesperson Sharlon Chatman.

Officials from the village clerk’s office reported no problems. However, there’s no word from the Cook County Board of Elections on whether or not those early votes have actually been counted yet.
