Owners of several Harrison Arts District businesses were irate when street work on Lyman Avenue prompted the closing of the east end of Harrison Street at a very bad time.

Not only was it during the shopper-crazed after-Thanksgiving weekend, but shop owners also had spent thousands on advertising to attract new shoppers to the district.

Village staff has recommended the district be reimbursed $1,500 for the incident.

MB Financial OK’d for drive-thru

Oak Park’s village board approved MB Financial Bank’s proposal to build a 3,700-square foot bank on the southwest corner of North and Columbian avenues, formerly home to Ahern Funeral Home.

The bank’s proposal was approved first by the Zoning Board of Appeals, which addressed neighbors’ concerns by requiring the bank to: make traffic leaving its drive-thru onto Columbian Avenue turn left back to North Avenue, and to maintain landscaping to lessen the impact of cars’ headlights on residential neighbors.
