Elizabeth Groen, 79, longtime St. Giles member
Elizabeth Jane Anne Groen, nee Hannagan, died in her home in Florida on Dec. 9, 2005, following a brief and courageous battle with a malignant brain tumor. Elizabeth was born on July 14, 1926 in Oak Park, and was married to her husband, Robert Groen, in 1947 at St. Giles Church. Her current residence was in Boca Raton, Fla.

Her life was filled with wonderful times with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Ms. Groen was an artist, hostess, cook, baker, and craftswoman. She enjoyed sailing, doll-making, and needlepoint, and was an avid world-traveler with her husband.

Elizabeth Groen is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert; her six children, Robert Jr. (Deborah), Jerome (Karen), Darby (Jeff) Kinni, Emily (Michael) Katzenbach, Elizabeth (John) Joly, and Kerry (Shawn) Stabell; her grandchildren, Alison, Peter, Michael, and Susanne Groen, Kelly Groen, Jeffrey and Michael Kinni, Michael, Julie, and Elizabeth Katzenbach, David, Brian, Kevin, and Amanda Joly, and Caitlin, Samantha, and Zachary Stabell; her sisters, Mary Lou Sarver, Dorothy Gibson, and Joanna Rouse; her brother, Tony Hannagan; and sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Robert Stanfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alice (Ryan) and Anthony Hannagan; her sister, Katherine Shannon; her brother, Thomas Hannagan; her sister, Alice Hannagan; and her uncle, Jerry Hannagan.

Funeral Mass was said at St. Giles on Dec. 15, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside. Visitation was held at Petersen’s Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Elizabeth requested that donations be made to a Catholic priest on the island of Dominica who leads three impoverished parishes and whom she has felt connected to for over 20 years. Kathy Pascale, Local artist, mother of 3
Kathy DeNyse (nee House) Pascale, a well known local artist, mother of three, and former Bead In Hand instructor, died Dec. 7 in her hometown of Brooksville, Fla. Private services will be held in Florida, Dec. 27. An art show and memorial will be held for Oak Parkers at a later date.

Kathy Pascale is survived by her husband, Thomas; her children, Andrew, Sarah, and Leslie; her parents, Dr. Edwin and Judy House; and her sister, Suzzanne.
