Little more than a year ago, one of our local right-wingers wrote a letter to the editor stating that President Bush won the election with the most votes ever received by a presidential candidate, as if this actually meant something.

In my response, I pointed out the reason for this: The population of the country is the largest it’s ever been, and Mr. Bush was re-elected with one of the slimmest percentage advantages of any incumbent president.

I also stated that if one thought Richard Nixon’s second term was bad, Bush’s second term would make your head spin. Are we dizzy enough yet?
