Mark Spadavecchia ended his high school cross-country career by leading the Fenwick boys’ team to a 21st place finish at the IHSA Class AA State Meet at Detweiller Park in Peoria on Saturday.
Spadavecchia placed 93rd overall with a time of 15:31. Other Friars who helped their team to a final score of 509 included Jordan Kramer (15:36, 103rd), Jack Gerstner (15:56, 142nd), Kyle Hope (15:59, 160th), and Patrick McGillen (16:14, 195th).
Junior Brooks Smith and sophomore Ryan Shannon finished 212th (16:24) and 249th (17:08), respectively.
Elmhurst ran off with first place at the meet, scoring a 49. Palatine’s Steve Finley took first overall with a time of 14:20.
Elizabeth Boyle placed 51st with a time of 18:19 as the lone representative for the Fenwick girls’ cross-country team.
Three seniors say so long
Three OPRF cross-country runners closed out their high school careers by finishing favorably at the State Meet.
Brendan Murphy, who suffered a season-ending leg injury last season, came back this year to place 33rd overall with a time of 15:01. Fellow senior Todd Teren placed 83rd overall with a time of 15:26.
Jennifer Donley placed 151st in 19:09.
