I have long contended that 9/11 was the best thing that has happened to the Republican Party in my lifetime (of 67 years). Their skillful exploiting of fear, together with their own financial engorgement through the awarding of no-bid, no-limit contracts in Iraq (and elsewhere) to Republican-contributing corporations, secured the ’04 election for them while creating a “perfect storm” for this country.

Now, exacerbated by their own ineptitude in how they have responded to Katrina, they are able to parlay this situation into another financial windfall with the first of the no-bid contracts for reconstruction in the area.

Of the 50-some billion dollars already appropriated for this, how much of this will wind up in the party’s coffers?
