On Friday, July 22, state Sen. Don Harmon and state Rep. Deborah Graham held an open forum addressing senior issues at the Oak Park Arms Retirement Community. The event was co-sponsored with Oak Park Township Senior Services and was open to all members of the Oak Park community. Senior citizens had the opportunity to ask questions about the status of pending legislation and to share their perspectives on issues important to older adults in the community. The rising cost of prescription drugs and the seniors’ struggle to maintain a healthy lifestyle provided stimulation for the discussion. Property taxes and home-owners exemptions for senior citizens’ also emerged as issues facing seniors in the township.
