Sunshine and a mild breeze were the order of the day?#34;it had to be the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust benefit housewalk on the third Saturday of May, the 31st annual Wright Plus. The community rallied in full force once again to show all that’s best about Oak Park. Residents, businesses, Preservation Trust volunteers and staff, arts and cultural organizations, and friends all opened their doors to welcome people from around the world. A quick survey turned up visitors from across the U.S., England, Japan, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Scotland and Australia. Wright Plus is an opportunity for all of us to remember how amazing this community is.

Related events ran from Thursday through Sunday with people leaving saying “thank you” to everyone for such a wonderful experience. They complimented the volunteers, staff, residents, and everyone they come in contact with on their friendliness, knowledge, and generosity. It is heartwarming that Wright Plus with a year of planning and support of so many people sends such a positive and powerful message to visitors. They appreciate the opportunity to see the interior of Frank Lloyd Wright and other architecturally significant buildings, learn of our cultural heritage, make new friends, and experience all that’s best in this community.

An event of this magnitude can only happen with generous support of so many. Special thanks to the Wright Plus homeowners, volunteers who gave thousands of hours, Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust staff who worked way beyond their usual responsibilities. Volunteer chairman Ellen Kuner, and co-chairman Nancy Alpert, dedicated months to the success of this event. Many sponsors provided support: Architectural Digest, Infiniti, Champagne Krug, Kendall-Jackson, United Airlines, Sofitel Chicago Water Tower, The Private Bank and Trust Company, Belmont Village, Winberie’s Restaurant and Bar, Oak Park Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Chicago Harlem Business District, F.C. Pilgrim and Company, Petersen’s Ice Cream Emporium, Carriage Flower Shop, Westgate Flower and Plant Shop, Schereck Designs, Good Earth Greenhouse, Tulipia Floral Design, KaBloom and Mixed Company. Thanks to all the local businesses who contributed to the party to celebrate the volunteers and the success of their efforts. And special thanks to WEDNESDAY JOURNAL for providing all visitors with the Wright Plus insert and for their continuing support of the Preservation Trust.

The Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust with two internationally recognized historic sites?#34;the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio in Oak Park and the Frederick C. Robie House in Chicago?#34;relies upon proceeds from Wright Plus and other initiatives to help support its educational programs, preservation and restoration initiatives. Thank you for making Wright Plus 2005 a success.
