Brooks Middle School Principal Flora Green will likely be reassigned to a new administrative post at next week’s District 97 Board of Education meeting.

Supt. John C. Fagan worked out a tentative agreement with Green earlier this week for a reassignment. Fagan said the new job would not be as principal at any school in the district, and that it would be a newly created central office position with responsibilities in the schools. An administrative post in the Multicultural Education Department would fall under the classification of central office, he said.

Fagan would not disclose any other details of the position.

The district will likely drop an effort to reclassify Green to teacher ranks.

“We have no further plans for scheduling a public hearing” on reclassification, Fagan said. A public hearing scheduled for Wednesday night was canceled when Green and the district got “close enough conceptually” to an agreement on a new post.

Approval of the reassignment is expected to appear on the agenda for the board’s regular meeting April 13.

The sitting board will continue to serve until an April 20 meeting, when newly elected board members are expected to be sworn in. A new law requires elected bodies wait 14 days after an election for final vote totals.
