I urge you to re-elect Carolyn Newberry Schwartz to the District 97 School Board on April 5. Carolyn has been an exceptional board member for the past four years, and her experience will be a tremendous asset to the board and the community for the next four years.
I have known Carolyn for many, many years, and I have seen first hand how she threw herself into the work of making our schools better. No one does her homework more thoroughly, no one works harder, and no one cares more deeply about Oak Park’s schools and its students.
Carolyn truly values the decision-making process, while keeping her eye on the goals of the process. Carolyn is decisive, but she is committed to an inclusive process. Carolyn understands that good communication between the board and its constituents is essential to validating the board’s ultimate decisions.
Finally, Carolyn is keenly aware of the balance that we must strike in operating our schools. She never loses sight of the goal of academic excellence for all students, but she equally understands the importance of fiscal responsibility. She has worked hard to achieve both for the past four years.
The District 97 board and all of us need Carolyn’s experience, leadership and commitment as the district welcomes its first new superintendent in seventeen years. I urge you to return Carolyn to the District 97 School Board on April 5.
