Every March before a local election, the village board is poised to get a lot of business done, and this year is no exception.
Some of the year’s biggest issues?#34;or in the case of Whiteco, a big issue that’s gone on for years?#34;are going to be up for a vote in the next three weeks.
Aside from a final decision on Whiteco, which Village Manager Carl Swenson said will not be blocked by a recent lawsuit, big votes topping the list include:
? The Crandall and Arambula master plan
? Extension of the downtown Tax Increment Financing district
? The proposed ban on smoking at in-door workplaces.
Despite the flurry of activity, Swenson said this election season doesn’t seem significantly busier than in years past.
“It’s not unusual,” Swenson said this week. “These are things that were set in motion months, if not years ago.”
A tentative agenda schedule follows:
? The village board will review the smoking ordinance at a study session tonight, and will likely vote on it by the end of the month.
? The downtown plan, and likely the TIF extension, will be at the board table on March 21.
? Whiteco may make it on the agenda at Monday’s meeting.
