An alert citizen informed the Downtown Oak Park beat officer of a loaded 9 mm semi-automatic handgun lying on the front seat of a Chevy Yukon parked in the Shops of Downtown Oak Park parking lot the morning of Jan. 27.

When the registered owner of the vehicle, Jeremy E. Stephens, 28, walked up and asked what was up, the officer questioned him about the weapon. Stephens reportedly replied to the effect that he’d “been set up.”

Police, who are currently in the process of tracing the weapon, arrested Stephens and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Fire Arm by a Felon.

Aggravated assault arrest
Alex Ramsey, 24, turned himself in to police Jan. 24 in relation to a Nov. 11 aggravated assault against an Oak Park woman. In that incident Ramsey allegedly pointed a handgun at a woman in the 900 block of Taylor. He was also allegedly involved in a Criminal Damage to Property incident at that address.

A teenager grabbed an Oak Park woman’s purse in the 700 block of North Boulevard the afternoon of Jan. 25. He then pushed the woman into her companion, knocking the second woman to the ground, causing that woman to strike her head on the pavement. Loss was $180.

Christian E. Padron, 22, of Chicago was allegedly observed by a parking enforcement officer leaving an apartment at 927 Wesley via a window around 5:30 the morning of Jan. 27. Padron was reportedly found to have a laptop computer wrapped in a towel.

Theft of Auto or Criminal Trespass to Auto
? Pionne Trotter, 39, and Sandra Williams, 44, were found by 25th District Chicago Police in a 1989 Chevy F-20 Van parked in a alley in the 5900 block of Division Street. The van was reported stolen overnight on Jan. 29 from Oak Park.

? Someone took a 1996 Plymouth Voyager from the first block of South Boulevard between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Jan. 29.

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Bethany D. Austin of Hanover Park was pulled over by Oak Park cops near Jackson and Monroe around 7 p.m. Jan. 25 for allegedly not stopping at a stop sign. She was found to have an expired license. Her passenger, Travis Lanier of Vernon Hills, was then charged with being in possession of a 4-inch glass pipe commonly used to ingest drugs after it was observed lying on the car floor.

Someone broke the side door and frame of a garage in the 600 block of North Harvey during daylight hours Jan. 26 and stole a $700 snow blower.

Burglary to vehicles
The driver’s side windows of two vehicles were smashed during burglaries in the 900 block of Wesley overnight on Jan. 27. A cell phone and other miscellaneous items were stolen from a Ford Explorer, with losses of $347. Four CDs were taken from a Ford Escape, with a loss of $460.

Theft of Auto
An unlocked and running Chevy Astro van belonging to a locksmith was stolen in the 200 block of Adams around 10 a.m. Jan. 24. Loss was $20,000.

? David Leonard of Forest Park was arrested after striking a building in the 1000 block of South Cuyler with his Audi the evening of Jan. 30. Upon exiting his vehicle, he reportedly couldn’t maintain his balance, and had a strong odor of alcohol, according to police.

? River Forest cops reportedly found Jermaine E. Kelly, 25, slumped in a van in the middle of the street at Lake St. and River Oaks just after 3 a.m. on Jan. 30.

Traffic/Outside arrest
After Darnell Junious, Jr. was stopped by police for an alleged illegal turn near Erie and Austin around 1:45 a.m. Jan. 27, he was found to have a suspended driver’s license. A name check also revealed that he was wanted by the Cook County Sheriff on a Retail Theft charge.

Criminal Trespass
Christopher P. Glover, 22, was arrested for Criminal Trespass in the 1500 block of Bonnie Brae just before 1 a.m. on Jan. 27 after he was discovered sleeping in a hallway. He is also considered suspect in a burglary in which a television set was stolen from a third-floor apartment in that same building.

Resisting arrest
Yvette Swift-Graham, 22, of Chicago was stopped by police for an alleged traffic violation at Madison Avenue and Austin Boulevard. When her vehicle registration reportedly turned up suspended, and she could produce no proof of insurance, she was placed under arrest, which she resisted repeatedly before finally being handcuffed. Inside the squad car, Swift-Graham allegedly kicked the door and loudly threatened to kill the officers. Back at the station, she simply posted bond and left quietly.

? The above reported incidents are gleaned from the Oak Park and River Forest Police departments from Jan. 23 through Jan. 30. Not all incidents that occurred are listed. Anyone named in reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated.

Increase this week in domestic battery

Oak Park and River Forest police dealt with multiple domestic batteries or complaints last week.

? Angel Lopez-Guerrero, of Cicero, was arrested just after midnight on Jan. 31 at a residence in Oak Park. Guerrero allegedly punched a woman, who is seven months pregnant?#34;in the mouth several times?#34;then blocked her from leaving her residence. He’s being held for a bond hearing.

? River Forest police are seeking Jovan Simmons, 25, in connection with an alleged threatening phone call to a woman in River Forest the morning of Jan. 24.

Simmons, an armed security guard, reportedly moved out of the residence several days before. The residence was also the site of a previous domestic battery call.

? Jose Orozco, 68, of Oak Park, was arrested by Oak Park police on a Cook County Sheriff’s warrant for violating bond after resisting a peace officer. Orozco had previously been arrested in Oak Park after allegedly striking a woman in the face on Sept. 20. He was also charged with resisting a police officer. Orozco was also charged with allegedly leaving a threatening message on the woman’s voice mail on Dec. 9, in violation of a Court Order of Protection.
