Travis Teague, 27, lifelong OPer, lover of basketball
Travis T. Teague, 27, of Oak Park, died Dec. 10, 2004. Mr. Teague was a lifelong Oak Park resident and member of the Oak Park and River Forest High School Class of 1995.
After graduating from OPRF, Mr. Teague attended Loyala University Chicago. He graduated from Loyola with a degree in Business Administration. Following college, he began working at Arch Wireless as a sales representative for the Woodfield location. In the summer of 2003, he fulfilled a dream by starting his own part-time promotional business, T&K Entertainment, where he hosted weekly events at the newest and most popular venues in Chicago.
Mr. Teague passed away Friday from natural causes while playing basketball, the game he loved dearly. He made a number of friends through a lifetime of playing sports in Oak Park and the surrounding areas. Family and friends remembered him as the joyous, fun-loving, energetic friend who knew just what it took to put a smile on anyone’s face.
Travis Teague is survived by his brothers, Steven, Chris, and Marcus; nieces and nephews, Roland, Stevon, Alyssa, and Stekara.
Visitation will be held Dec. 17 at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home. The following day, a funeral Mass will be celebrated at Ascension Church, followed by interment at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Hillside. For more information, contact Drechsler, Brown & Williams at 383-3191.
Leonard Helmold, 94, musician in Oak Park’s Mills Orchestra
Leonard C. Helmold, 94, of Berwyn, died Dec. 2, 2004. Born in Chicago, he spent nearly his entire life in Berwyn, graduating from Morton High School and attending the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago before beginning his long career as a mechanical engineer with the International Harvester Company (now known as Navistar), for over 50 years.
Mr. Helmold was a talented musician, playing with the Mills Orchestra in Oak Park. This orchestra, comprised of retired seniors, especially enjoyed entertaining nursing home residents.
Charlotte Goossens, a friend of Mr. Helmold for 50 years, said, “He was always available to play in front of the seniors. He loved to share his musical talent wherever he went.”
Mr. Helmold was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church in Oak Park. He was very involved in Christ Lutheran as a Sunday School teacher, a singer in the choir, and often enhanced services by playing trumpet. He also held offices in the church and was an active member of the Gideon Bible Society.
“We all loved Leonard dearly. He was a man of God who was always there if you needed him,” Goossens said.
Leonard Helmold was preceded in death by his wives, Gertrude and Eleanor, and his brother Wilbur (late Janet) Helmold.
Funeral services were held at Christ Lutheran Church on Dec. 6 with visitation at Dreschler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home on Dec. 5. Burial was at Chapel Hill Garden Cemetery in Oak Brook Terrace. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Christ Lutheran Church.
