Sun Times commercial real estate columnist David Roeder took a shot at “The People’s Republic of Oak Park” and its agreement with Whiteco last Wednesday.

Noting that he first commented on Whiteco two years ago, “which gives you an idea about the planning process in the host community,” he went on to add: “… the developer originally asked for a $2 million subsidy. To build less, the developer is getting around $8.5 million. So the taxing agencies get less benefit with a greater subsidy payment. In Oak Park, that’s called progress.”

Same Township slate to run in April
All eight incumbent Oak Park Township elected officials will seek re-election on April 5.

The eight officials have formed the “Township Party” slate, and include Supervisor David Boulanger, Collector Mary Cozzens, Clerk Gregory White, Assessor Ali ElSaffar, and four trustees, Clarmarie Keenan, Eric King, Lee Pulliam and Dr. William Troyer. Boulanger and King are seeking third terms, while the other trustees are seeking their second terms.

The township has received two inquiries from others interested in seeking election, Boulanger said, but he did not know of anyone who has announced candidacy.

Holiday book drive at WJ
If you have a new?#34;or almost new?#34;children’s book that you would like to donate this holiday season, you can drop it off at the Wednesday Journal offices, 139 S. Oak Park Ave. Our sister publication, Chicago Parent is sponsoring the drive, which will benefit low-income children in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. If it’s a book you and/or your child loved reading, feel free to include a note with your first name and a sentence about why you recommend the book. For more information, contact Editor Susy Schultz, 613-3350.

In our INSIDE REPORT of Oct. 27 [Vote your conscience, not your bishop’s conscience] we misrepresented one part of Rev. Larry McNally’s pre-election sermon. The sentence should have read, “In fact, it offended him that some bishops would attempt to tell people how to vote.”

WEDNESDAY JOURNAL regrets the error.
