In addition to being a library board member and chair of the Public Art Advisory Commission, David Sokol, professor emeritus of Art History at University of Illinois at Chicago and founder and longtime director of the UIC Museum Studies Program, was recently appointed to the board of the Illinois State Museum. Sokol was the first curator of the Terra Museum of American Art and previously served as acting director both of the Terra and Spertus museums. He has guest curated many exhibitions, and is the author of books, exhibition catalogs, and articles. The 40-year resident of Oak Park is a former village trustee as well.

The Illinois State Museum consists of the museum in Springfield, the Chicago and Lockport galleries, two artisans’ centers, and the Dixon Mounds.
