The most fashionable quality is someone who takes possession of their unique personal style.
This week’s Style Inspiration is a music lover and photography student at Columbia with a beguilingly offbeat fashion aesthetic, where prim pinup gal meets cheeky punk rocker.
I love a woman with an intrepid sense of style, who embraces a sense of self. According to Vogue magazine, “Being a conformist in your 20s would be a sin.”
Your fashion style: Rockabilly meets pinup girl. My style makes me happy, like cotton candy – it’s light, bright, and fun.
Favorite fashion era: I like both the 1920’s and the 1950’s.
Fashion inspiration: Audrey Kitching and Hannah Beth. I love modern day hipsters. I like the idea that a woman can be both proper and hip at the same time; a grungy pinup girl has appeal.
Favorite local boutiques: I love Pagani Hair Salon in Oak Park (103 S. Oak Park) for cuts, color, and hair care products. I like to shop at lots of boutiques for my clothes.
Greatest fashion indulgence: Shoes!
The one item you think every woman should have in her closet: A cardigan. This is a nice piece to have in your wardrobe. It allows you to cover up when necessary, like at work meetings.
Style advice: Women should try on clothes that they think they otherwise wouldn’t wear. And try on new styles, because you could be surprised at what you look great it.
Marie took off her cardigan after the photo shoot to reveal a concealed tattoo of the Wizard of Oz (see photo gallery). I’d love to know if you have a tattoo, and if so, what of?
