From May 30th - June 2nd and June 6th - June 9th a group of local artists are showing and selling their wares at a pop-up gallery at 109 S. Oak Park Avenue. Pop Design, Art & Interiors will be open on those weekends from noon - 8pm.

I think it's a pretty phenomenal opportunity for us as Oak Park residents. I realize that we have galleries on Harrison Street. And we have the Oak Park Art League. But to have a showing from each of these local, very talented artists all in one place, is really something we have to take advantage of.

It seems that the organizers took variety into consideration. By popping in to the gallery we'll be able to see textiles, found object art, figurative sculptures, glass art, and multi-media paintings. Many of the artists represented create jewelry or pottery, apparel and accessories. The show promises to have numerous items that are very appropriate for gifting.

On the preview night May 30th from 5-8pm, they are offering a 10% discount to folks. Throughout the event they are donating a portion of sales to the Animal Care League and West Suburban PADS.

Many of the artists have recognizable names, are in galleries nationwide, and have an acclaim all their own. But these are all local artists. They live and breathe and support our community in countless ways through their artistic expression.

I, for one, love the idea of supporting local artists who are working to give back to some fantastic community organizations.

I can't wait for preview night. And for sure my family will make it over there on our trek around town during Day in Our Village.

Here's the artist lineup:

Jacqui Ross – Furniture, home décor and jewelry
Deborah Peacock Stoklosa - Collage, Vintage apparel and accessories
Bryan Northup - Functional glass art and jewelry
Melanie Pennington - Figurative Sculptures
Anna Lentz - Colorful painted, sewn, and woven home goods
Kristi Sloniger - Wheel-thrown functional pottery and decorative tile wall hangings
Pamela Penney – Textiles and Apparel
Steve Smith – Contemporary and Abstract Paintings
Karen Schuman – Quilted, Multi-media Paintings
Karen Gubitz – Hand Woven Fiber Sculpture
Lisa Nordstrom - Contemporary folk, found object art and fine crafts
Simon Gallo – Multi-media Paintings

When: May 30 - June 2 & June 6 - 9. (Thurs-Sun). Hours will be noon to 8pm, open at 11am, June 2 during Day in Our Village

Preview/Opening Night on Thursday May 30, 5-8pm, 10% off everything

Where: 109 N. Oak Park Ave, Oak Park IL, between Gepetto's Restaurant and Erik's Deli
Price: Free and open to the public

About the coordinators:

Jacqueline Ross, a retired criminal defense attorney and avid interior designer originated the idea of a new pop-up gallery in Oak Park and joined forces with Oak Park glass artist Bryan Northup and collage artist and vintage collector Deborah Peacock Stoklosa and formed POP Design Art And Interiors. This event is their first effort but something they hope to continue doing in the future.

Got some questions - these folks would be happy to answer them.

We are very excited to share this group of artist's work in this way in downtown Oak Park. Thanks for spreading the word, shopping local and for a good cause.
