Mondays at the Shopping Blog bring you all things green and eco-friendly. Today, get ready for resale shopping made fun again!

Oak Park is welcoming a new consignment shop which promises sustainable style for you and me. Have you been hanging on to a smart pair of trousers or an off-beat blouse that you just love, but you just can’t fit into or you haven’t worn in over a year?

Well, ladies, it’s time to take a peek at the helpful tips for knowing when to say good-bye to that pretty piece (remember, there’s someone out there waiting to give it a second life!) and say hello to TRENDS.

Clos-ette’s Melanie Fascitelli’s Tips to Organize the Perfect Closet:

Take Inventory and Edit: Listen up all you pack rats: it’s time to let go of those jeans that don’t fit! Here are the four criteria for keeping a clothing item (and sentimental value isn’t one of them!):

  1. Does the item stand the test of time? (Broken-in cowboy boots may not be an everyday item, but you’ll wear them again one day.)
  2. Would you buy the item again today if you had the chance?
  3. Have you worn it in the past 12 months?
  4. Is the item in good condition?

Now, prepare for a little sharing and a little shopping!

Divine Consign is introducing TRENDS, a new consignment boutique, and cheap-chic fashion finds will abound! TRENDS will be opening mid-April in Oak Park at 810 North Boulevard.

From our friends at Divine Consign:

TRENDS is a hot new consignment boutique specializing in high end women's clothing, shoes, handbags and jewelry. We’re keeping it trendy for women of all ages to enjoy.

Spring cleaning does include the inside of your closet! Are you ready to make some extra money? TRENDS is now accepting consignments at Divine Consign Annex (810 North Bolevard): dresses, skirts, jeans, jackets, sweaters, tanks, and tees. Bring your quality and stylish pieces to sell.

Consignment made fun: All pieces must be cleaned, on hangers, and pressed to be considered. We keep items for 60 days.  After 21 days, items are reduced by 20%. After 42 days, items are reduced by another 20% (40% total). You will receive 50% of the final selling price.

For more information, call (708) 434-0801 or email

I’ll see you around town and in the shops. Happy Green Shopping!

I'm not sure if Livia's mother (see photo, right) hung on to her scarlet dress for sentimental reasons, but she certainly had the fashion foresight to know this piece would stand the test of time.

While I am not aware of any consignment shops for men in the immediate area, you can certainly donate your items to the Economy Shop, the Brown Elephant, or the Animal Care League's 2nd Chance Shop. Proceeds benefit wonderful nonprofit organizations.
