Forest Park has a wonderful collection of unique boutiques on Madison Street, but the recent addition of Pretty Little Things (7324 W. Madison Street) has just amped up their fun factor.
Binky and Signe (pronounced sig-nee) are sisters and co-owners of this hip, little shop chalk full of funky housewares, artistic apparel for guys, gals and tiny tots, as well as colorful, earth friendly curiosities.
The focus of the very cool, sometimes very quirky items chosen by the dynamic duo (who attribute their names to hippy parents) is on quality products made in the USA, crafted by local or underground artists.
You’ll find an inspired selection of whimsical dresses, original t-shirts, handcrafted bags, fanciful jewelry, and plucky home decor (see photo gallery).
Vintage furnishings dot this quaint shop, with an antique sea green baby crib reinvented as a clothes rack and a comfy couch in a bold pattern, circa 1970 – that has clearly been resurrected from someone’s basement (recycling done right!) – added as a warm and inviting touch.
A collection of distinctive pint glasses sporting screen-printed bicycles in lively colors of aqua, cherry red and lemon yellow make a great gift or self-indulgence.
An amber-colored canvas clutch handmade in Seattle is the perfect spring accessory. Delicate, nature-inspired costume jewelry is an inexpensive way to add style to any outfit. And my personal favorite: a timber timepiece, a watch constructed of sustainable wood (see photos).
As for the unusual merchandise, ask about the product that will make you swoon – literally, that is. There’s a foot mat designed to massage pressure points that leaves your legs feeling tingly. If you decide to try it or buy it, let the rest of us know how you like it!
