Dominican University in River Forest received a $132,000 rebate check Thursday for saving energy with the recent installation of a new energy-efficient boiler system on campus.

A statement from the school said the system will save more than 132,000 therms during its first year of operation. Part of that savings from the $348,000 project—which Buildings and Grounds Director Dan Bulow said was completed June 30—will be reinvested in other efficiency improvements throughout the campus.

DRF Trusted Property Solutions designed the system that Bulow said could have a payback of two and a half years, depending on the price of gas.

The check was presented by Elizabeth Reese, president of Nicor Gas, to Dominican President Donna Carroll. Nicor offers incentives and rebates to help customers save energy and money, the statement said. Eligible customers get the education and resources to offset the installation and implementation costs for energy efficiency projects.
