• When, via Twitter, NPR's Scott Simon brought all of us so intimately into the ICU unit where his mom was dying it resonated with millions who follow Simon. In a Wednesday obituary of Patricia Lyons Simon Newman, the Trib reported that Simon's mom was born in Oak Park on August 31, 1928. The story by the Trib's Michelle Manchir quotes Simon as saying his mom attended Catholic schools in Chicago until she and a friend were bounced for trying on nuns' habits.
• Thomas Lennon, he of OPRF's Tradition of Excellence honors for notable grads, is co-starring this fall in a new NBC sitcom. "Sean Saves the World," stars Sean Hayes of "Will & Grace" fame as, get this, a gay single dad. Lennon, of course, is best known for his hot-pants outfitted Lt. Jim Dangle on "Reno 911." In the new show he will play Hayes boss, according to Sun-Times TV writer Lori Rackl. Lennon told Rackl the new show is set in Evanston though he wished it had been set in Oak Park.

I noticed that also Dan. When will this list if exceptional people born in Oak Park end?? I especially loved the part about getting kicked out of school for trying on the habit. Kind of outs our discipline problems in perspective
