A handful of high-profile celebrities are opening up their pocketbooks, hoping to help a devastated Texas family, which is staying in Oak Park.
A tragic auto accident last month in Texas left two parents dead and their two young sons paralyzed from the waist down. The two boys have been uprooted from their home in Houston, and transported a thousand miles away to stay in Oak Park while undergoing rehab, Wednesday Journal reported last week.
The tragedy has “touched the hearts of Hollywood,” according to the Hollywood Reporter, and a number of celebrities have made donations to the family. They include Justin Bieber, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. The latter made a plea to her 12 million followers on Twitter last week: “There are orphans that need our help. A tragic story that left them paralyzed.”
Joshua Berry, 41, and his wife Robin, 40, were killed instantly in the head-on collision, the evening of July 2, according to the Jewish-Herald Voice newspaper. Their 6-year-old daughter Willa suffered a broken arm, while Aaron, 8, and Peter, 9, were left unable to walk. The two boys are staying with their aunt and uncle in Oak Park while getting treatment at Shriners Hospital for Children, located just north of the village in Chicago.
Those interested in supporting the Berry family can go to showyourhearts.org, or just text “BERRY” (85944) to make a $10 donation, according to the website.
