While rivals OPRF and Fenwick play one another quite often in several different sports, the two schools that are separated by just a few blocks haven't gone head-to-head — or helmet-to-helmet — in football for quite some time.

That will change tomorrow night (Thursday, July 14) when the Huskies host the Friars, the Morton Mustangs and possibly one more school at Oak Park Stadium for a 7-on-7 tournament. Fans are welcome to come watch. The tournament will begin at 6 p.m.

It might not have the same intensity as a real match-up between the two football teams, but it should still be interesting just the same. Although, it should be noted: 7-on-7 focuses on passing with a QB, receivers and backs, and both programs are leaning towards having offenses this fall that run the ball extensively.

Check out the July 20 print edition of Wednesday Journal as we check in with new OPRF head football coach John Hoerster.

It's 7 on 7, they do this every year, sometimes up to three times.

Have you got an over/under for the game?

The early line has the Friars as 6 1/2 point favorites: the thought of which inspires the perfect use of the Comcast building. Convert it into a legalized sports betting parlor. We can invoke home rule, claim it's on Native American burial grounds, and make a fortune! Actually, the 7-on-7 sounds like fun...everybody go watch!

I would love to see the two school schedule an annual football game. They can play for the Merrett Lovett/ Johnny Lattner Cup. For those who might not be familiar with those names; both men were the greatest prep athletes in Oak Park history. Basketball games between the two schools have produced terrific contests and are well-attended.
