Starting Monday, June 11, the first part of the asphalt on Harlem Avenue in Oak Park will undergo heavy reconstruction.
Crews will be grinding pavement and the road will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Drivers are encouraged to find alternative routes as the construction is expected to cause delays.
Other construction starting in the village includes the alley program, which was recently bid and approved by the village board.
Other water and sewer and street reconstruction and resurfacing projects are also underway.
The village is expected to have around $10 million worth of reconstruction projects scheduled in 2012. Much of that is federally funded, according to Village Engineer Jim Budrick.
Improvements to three railroad grade crossings in River Forest will cause closures this month. Work by Canadian National Railroad will keep the crossing at Forest Avenue closed through today. The crossing at Augusta Street will be closed June 7-9, and the Keystone Avenue crossing will be closed June 18-21.
