The outdoor troupe Oak Park Festival Theatre is honoring its former managing director on Father’s Day by planting a tree in Austin Gardens.

Galen Gockel—who is also a former village trustee and township assessor—retired from the post last fall. At the time, the theatre “surprised” its five-year managing director by announcing they would dedicate a tree in honor of his “unstinting service,” according to an email news release.

The ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. on June 19 at Austin Gardens, 167 Forest. It will be followed by a performance of “King Henry the Fourth.”
