Despite overcast and damp conditions, I along with a sizeable gathering of fans checked out the Oak Park and River Forest vs. Fenwick boys lacrosse game last night at Oak Park Stadium. The Friars and Huskies didn't disappoint the fans with split loyalities, with the former emerging with a 8-7 win over the Huskies.
The match featured multiple momentum shifts. After the Huskies took a 2-1 lead after one period, the Friars exploded for six unanswered goals in the second quarter to seize a 7-2 halftime lead. Alex Lambert scored three goals in a row during the Friars' spurt.
In the second half, however, the Huskies controlled time of possesion and outplayed the Friars whittling their deficit to to 8-7 with 2:02 left in the game on a dramatic goal by Danny Hanley. Fenwick held on in the final two minutes with Lambert fittingly running out the clock to preserve the win.
I'll have a full game report with stats and players' quotes in next week's issue of the Wednesday Journal. Kudos to both the Friars and Huskies for putting on a heckuva show in less than ideal weather conditions.
