A local voter sent a frustrated email to Wednesday Journal this morning, curious why election signs were disappearing around Oak Park.

David Kindler — a former president of the village's park board, and campaign helper for incumbent Jessica Bullock — was curious what happened to all the placards supporting Bullock, along with newcomers Victor Guarino and Paul Aeschleman.

"For what it's worth, looks like somebody went out and had a field day/night lifting Guarino, Bullock, Aeschleman signs off people's lawns last night," Kindler wrote just after 8 a.m. this morning. "Not surprising, or original, but kind of cheap."

But shortly after, Kindler discovered that the park board hopefuls had moved the signs themselves, and he wrote back to share an update.

"Cheap/thrifty in another way," he wrote. "Apparently the candidates redistributed their own signs to polling places to cut down on waste.

"Oak Park is a fast moving place ... good thing the Journal only comes out once a week or else all of our heads would be spinning."

Bullock was the one who reassured Kindler after the initial email this morning. Most of the signboards were owned by friends, who likely wouldn't care if they went missing, she said.

"I said, 'Don't worry, it's nothing vindictive. We were just trying to be cost-conscious and thrifty,'" she said between laughs this afternoon by phone. "He was relieved, but yeah, there wasn't any big thing. We were just trying to save some money. The signs are basically invalid after today, so it's better to just reuse rather than reproduce a bunch more."

Bullock and company are competing against two other candidates, Tom Finch and Diane Dunn, for three open spots on the park district board of commissioners. A sixth challenger, Julie Grossman MacCarthy, dropped out of the race, but still remains on the ballot.

Polls close tonight at 7 p.m.
