Smith sets school record at ISU

OPRF High School graduate Brittany Smith won the Tony Wilson Award last week for most outstanding female field athlete as a member of the Illinois State University women’s track and field team.

Smith, a 2009 graduate of OPRF, set a new school record in the shot put with a toss of 58-09.5 to win the event at the 2012 Sea Ray Relays. The throw moved her into first on the NCAA Division I collegiate best-list by over six inches.

Smith also took second in the discus event with a mark of 180-11, a career-best and second-best in ISU history. That mark moves her into sixth in the nation and second in the Missouri Valley Conference. 

Smith won state in the discus her senior year at OPRF with a toss of 147-8.
