River Forest Village President-elect Cathy Adduci, in a thank you e-mail to supporters Thursday afternoon, said she had personally been out picking up her lawn signs and asked for an e-mail related to any she had missed.

Referring to the stirring sight of white ribbons now wrapping hundreds of trees across the village in tribute to Anne Smedinghoff, the young U.S. diplomat killed last week in Afghanistan, Adduci wrote, "Our front lawns and parkway trees displaying white ribbons and the American flag will now stand alone to show unity of the community in honoring a beautiful, talented and committed young woman and one of our own, Anne Smedinghoff."

What a wonderful gesture. We decided to drive through River Forest to refresh old memories and could not believe seeing such a display. What a wonderful community.
