The Chicago District Tennis Association selected Luka Bagos, who coaches in the Oak Park and River Forest area, as the recipient of the Vegosen Family Award for Chicago District Coach of the Year.
Bagos has taught tennis in Oak Park and River Forest since 2005, mostly at the Oak Park Tennis and Fitness Center during the winter months. He is also the head coach and general manager at the Oak Park Tennis Center, a public facility featuring nine clay courts. Prior to joining OPTC in 2011, Bagos taught at the River Forest Tennis Club during the outdoor season.
In two short seasons at OPTC, Bagos created a junior tennis program for over 100 players.
Bagos received the honor at the CDTA Evening of Champions banquet held in February. The Vegosen Family Award recognizes a teaching professional/coach who contributes to tennis in the community and the district by promoting and developing programs and players. This award is sponsored by the Jon Vegosen Family.
