Before Annie Riles walked onto the stage, she was already being cheered on by a throng of fans and friends.

The 17-year-old sang a medley of love songs for her act at the second annual student talent show at Oak Park and River Forest High School last Saturday. She was also among the finalists in last year's competition. Her voice—strong and powerful—is somewhere between Jennifer Hudson and Whitney Houston, perhaps leaning more toward the former American Idol star and Oscar winner. Riles, an OPRF senior, didn’t win gold during last Saturday’s talent show, but instead green—$300 in fact as this year’s winner of the “We’ve Got Talent” show, sponsored by the student club BOSS (Black Organization for Student Success). Friday’s show, which drew an enthusiastic and vocal crowd inside OPRF’s main auditorium, had a diverse group of performers, nearly 40 in all. The six finalists and grand prize winner all received cash prizes.
