A former River Forest resident will receive an award from the Better Business Bureau serving Chicago and northern Illinois at the organization's annual dinner this week.
Doris Christopher, who founded The Pampered Chef kitchenware business in 1980, will get the Torchbearer Award for her dedication to ethical business practices, according to a statement from the BBB. The dinner will be held March 15 at the Hilton Palmer House Hotel in Chicago.
Christopher started the business in the basement of her Thatcher Avenue home. It received the Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics in 1998. In 2001, the year before it was sold to Warren Buffet, the company had $740 million in sales.
