Oak Parkers who would like to help create the long-range plan that will guide government decision making for years to come are invited to participate in a visioning kick-off event scheduled for 7:30 – 9 p.m., tonight at the Nineteenth Century Club, 178 Forest Ave.
This event, which is part of the comprehensive plan development process, will help planners prioritize issues, such as economic development, diversity, education, the environment, neighborhoods and transportation that will be examined in more detail in future meetings. In addition to open dialog, tonight's participants will use electronic polling devices to register their views with a touchpad. For more information on the comprehensive plan, the process or this event, call (708) 358-5418, email planning@oak-park.us or visit envisionoakpark.com.

This was a great event last night! Very good turnout and neat to see what everyone voted for from the choices.

Long term vision planning - Isn't this what we elect our trustees for? It is nice to invite people to come out, but forget about people who work long hours, as well as, parents who have school events (it is activity night Wednesday). Input is nice, but it should be taken with a grain of salt.

Ironic that the meeting is at the Nineteenth Century Club. I cannot make it (small kids at home), but mark me down for less brick pavers, and a tax break for Lou Malnati's.

Oak Parkers would be well advised to participate in this even and others. If you sit this out, you'll be letting others determine the village's priorities. It's critical for the planning process to work to involve a broad representative segment of the village, not just the usual activist suspects. Now any decent planning process will temper the results of events like with this data and the expertise planners bring to the table. But don't sit this out folks.
