The OPRF football team’s Nile Sykes was recently recognized as one of Chicagoland’s Best High School Football players by Tom Lemming. Sykes was listed among the sophomores on Lemming’s National Collegiate Scouting Association All-Area team.

Sykes, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound defensive end for the Huskies, racked up 26 tackles over the fall season, seven for a loss of yards. He was on a list of several potential Division I recruits selected by Lemming, a popular player analyst.

“Nile is an exceptionally quick and athletic football player with great size,” said OPRF head coach John Hoerster. “He did a tremendous job for us at defensive end, and we are also looking to utilize him next year on the offensive side of the ball as well, in a tight end-type position. He has a great frame that will allow him to put on quite a bit more ‘good’ weight without sacrificing his speed or quickness.

Hoerster added that Sykes has a bright future ahead of him in football.

“Nile is also a very good person off the field, with tremendously supportive parents. I think if Nile works to his potential in the weight room, on the practice field, in the classroom and on the game field he has the potential to be an outstanding high school football player with the ability to continue his football playing days beyond high school.”
