An Oak Park and River Forest High School alum has recently won the 2011 Miss Black New York Pageant. Michelle Mbekeani, a 2007 OPRF graduate, won among five finalists at the Nov. 13 event taking place in New York City. She’s currently a senior at Stony Brook University on Long Island New York. The 21-year-old is majoring in German and Political Science, with a minor in Middle Eastern Studies. Mbekeani was Student Council president at OPRF and the 2006 winner of the school’s Martin Luther King Oratorical Contest. She’s also a singer and utilized that skill in the pageant’s talent portion.
