Oak Park's traditional Veteran's Day commemoration will take place on Monday at Scoville Park, Lake Street and Oak Park Avenue. The police department honor guard will present a rifle salute, State Sen. Don Harmon will speak and local ministers will offer invocations. There will also be music.
The commemoration is scheduled at 11 a.m. near the Peace Triumphant monument at the crest of the hill in Scoville Park. That recently restored statue honors locals who served in World War I.
Following the ceremony, guests will be invited to the Ernest Hemingway Museum just across the street at the Oak Park Arts Center. Donuts and cider will be served.
Hemingway is among the Oak Parkers who served in World War I.
