A basketball jersey with the number 32 on it will soon hang from the rafters of the field house at OPRF High School, or somewhere in the building.
OPRF announced today that the number OPRF graduate Iman Shumpert (2008) wore during his high school basketball playing days will be retired during halftime of the Huskies' varsity game against Downers Grove North on Friday, Dec. 2 (tip-off 7:30 p.m.).
Shumpert, a four-year varsity player while at OPRF, was drafted by the New York Knicks in June. He has yet to play in a game in the NBA due to the ongoing NBA lockout.
"The athletic department in conjunction with the basketball program decided to retire [Iman's] number for his basketball accomplishments and his continuing work with the school and community," said OPRF head basketball coach Matt Maloney, who added Shumpert will be in attendance for the ceremony if the NBA season has yet to start.
Former OPRF baseball coach Jack Kaiser's number 20 is the only other number that has been officially retired by the high school.
