What Fenwick girls basketball coach Dave Power didn’t have for Thursday night’s game against cross-town rival OPRF was Tricia Liston, who scored a whopping 39 points against the Huskies last season. Liston is now at Duke. What Power did have was a group of four players that each scored in double digits for a combined 51 points. Sarah Williams, Kathleen Roche, Kyra Navarrete and Hannah Ballard led the Friars to a 78-38 victory in their season and home opener in Oak Park.

Williams and Roche each scored 14 points apiece, while Navarrete added 12 and Ballard 11. The seniors dominated the Huskies (0-2) from the beginning, taking a 19-7 lead in the first quarter and never looking back.

Fenwick freshman Jade Owens made her varsity debut, scoring six points, all in the second half.

Stekara Hall’s nine points led the Huskies, who will try to get their first victory on the early season when they travel to Marist on Monday for a tournament.

The Friars take on Wheeling in the opener of the Niles North Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday night (7:30 p.m.). They go up against Johnsburg in the second round on Saturday, and return home on Tuesday (7:30 p.m.) to face Niles North for what could be Power’s 800th career-coaching victory. Power (797-206 in 34 years) would stand alongside Marshall’s Dorothy Gaters as the only high school girls basketball coaches in the state with 800 wins or more.
