Oak Park Village Hall’s in-house TV station took home top honors at a national awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday.
VOP-TV — which broadcast’s village board meetings and public-service programs on channel 6 for Comcast subscribers or 99 on AT&T U-verse — was honored for “excellence in government programming,” according to a village press release. The award came by way of the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors, a Virginia-based nonprofit.
The association received some 700 entries into the contest from 26 different states, according to the village press release. Oak Park was also recognized in the categories of interview/talk show, public education, community awareness, event/program promotion, and public information series.
VOP-TV is managed, filmed and edited by Joe Kreml, whose videos have won more than two dozen awards since he joined village staff in 2001.
