The Downtown Oak Park (DTOP) business association just launched a new shopping application for smartphones, which allows users to search for "perks" at nearby businesses.

Launched last month, the app is available for both iPhones and Androids, and can be found by searching "Oak Park" in each platform's store, according to a press release. Once downloaded, users can look for any events, discounts or announcements at nearby shops in DTOP and redeem any bonuses by scanning the barcode at each business.

The app also includes a business directory, events page and the ability to "follow" individual merchants to receive text alerts, according to the press release.

There have been some really cool shopping app recommendations over the past couple of days...I ended up downloading the 'Should I Buy It?' app someone recommended and it is awesome! I was shopping for shoes and was able to quickly share them with my friends to see what they thought of them. Here is the link again to download: http://bit.ly/sibifm33

Is there an app for tallying how much TIF money has been diverted from school districts and given to developers in downtown Oak Park? How about an app that displays photos of historic buildings that have been demolished and replaced by parking lots and vacant lots? How about an app for tallying how many local business have been lost, along with their property and sales taxes, and their new addresses in Forest Park?

The downtown Oak Park app can only be found on the iPhone by searching for oakpark as one word. Searching for Oak Park as two words it is not found.
